Pollphail was built in the 1970s by the local government hoping to cash in on oil work building concrete oil rigs, this never happened and Pollphail was never inhabited. It was designed to house five hundred workers and a large dry dock was constructed alongside. There is a brand new swish marina there now and this village is in line for demolition.
When I approached the "village" it looked to me like someone had built a council housing estate and forgot there was no city

as I got closer and looked at the buildings and rooms I thought this is no ghost village, its the village of the damned

most of the buildings comprised of small apartments designed with two or three bedrooms and a toilet/shower room with no communal areas
incredibley narrow stairwells to upper appartments

ALL the apartment bedrooms looked like this - no exceptions

totally cramp and bereft of any decor and ghastly electric bar heaters

at the centre of the village there was the communal mess/galley and bar and recreation rooms - the designers obviously thought along the lines of a large motel where workers at set times would come for meals and relax in the rec halls - the apartments were obviously purely for sleeping in
