Whilst on the hunt for some good shots of the Earth Station at Goonhilly, Mr Doozer and I parked up at the nature reserve for a good scout around. It turns out that the large fence(s) all the way round the satellite dishes meant the opportunity for getting good snaps was poor, but on the plus side, we stumbled on this - RAF Drytree, one of the Chain Home Low Stations for RAF 10 Group during the Second World War:). It provided low level raid cover for the south coast of Cornwall and the Western Approaches and now survives as a collection of roofless buildings and shelters. The receiver block survives relatively intact, but there are barred gates which stop the local kids getting in and drinking themselves silly on meths:thumb.

Anyone visiting should be aware of the presence of (apparently) huge numbers of adders on the heath and therefore should not just lunge out into the heather and gorse like a drunk elephant after a hip replacement:p. I did, although to be fair, no-one told me about the adders until afterwards:eek:. And if there had been any adders about, they would have heard me coming a mile off and should have had the sense to get out of the way.

Couple of dish-y pictures for the nerds :):

Interesting place, if a wee bit overgrown. Do BT still have a visitor centre at Goonhilly? I seem to remember it from a family holiday years and years ago ...
