The shafts of Clipstone Colliery were first sunk in 1922. In the 1950s the colliery was rebuilt and the shafts were deepened to access other seams.
After being closed by British Coal in 1993, the colliery was reopened by RJB Mining in 1994. The 1950s rebuilding of the headgear and winder house were listed in 2000 as an "early example of the 'Koepe' system". The colliery was finally closed in 2003. Many local idiots want the place completely destroyed, despite the fact that the town would not exist if the colliery wasn't there!

Visited with Boothy, was an excellent place to explore :thumb
