Within twelve hours of this being shut down, our Caravan Utilising Nomadic Travelling friends has ripped this place of twelve grand worth of stuff. Over the next few years they have camped out on here and had many attempt at ripping out every bit of metal they can possibly do. As a result, this place is monitored pretty heavily, even though there is little left.
More recently the theft of a large valve meant that this pond was emptied and a lot of fish died.

This jumbo chimney had the big metal cap fitted on a long time ago. It was lifted up by a crane. A man was also holding on to the cap as it was lifted up.

Inside is reassuringly knackered

The remains of a massive lagged boiler is in one part. I have a picture of the inside but it is boring.

Some pretty nasty chemicals remain. Caustic soda anyone?

Most of the big machinery went to Scotland about seven years ago. The other stuff was taken by pikies.

Most of the big warehouses are empty

Little survives of the canteen.

Another massive but empty shed.

Upstairs shall we?

Broken glass.

The offices are ruined. By the desk is a box of chemicals.

One of the large ponds outside. The machinery is slowly rusting away. A bad flood a decade ago meant that river water filled the ponds. That was not good. There are now fish in them.

You need clean water for the dyes, and so the factory had it's own borehole, at 150 feet deep.

As it has not been pumped for about seven years the water table has risen a bit.

Very nice - reminds me of Dorma at Chinley, which was equally stripped/ grim, but still had a good deal of colour about it. Out of interest, do you know where in Scotland the machinery went to, as I've been keeping an eye on a couple of dyeworks which appear to be on their last legs ...
