Oneandsix and myself had a little time to kill this morning, so we checked out RAF Ludham Norfolk. The tower is in great condition inside and out. There are not too many buildings left across the base, there is one hangar left whith a runway which is used as a private airfield. The gun stop butts are still there with a few smaller buildings dotted around.
The airfield was used as a second satellite to RAF Coltishall from 1941 to Aug 1943, fighter station with Spitfires and Typhoons.
Aug 1943 to Aug 1944 the airfield was allocated to the USAAF but no units were based there.
Aug 1944 to Feb 1945 the airfield was allocated to the Royal Navy as HMS Flycatcher.
The airfield then returned to fighter command until July 1945.
