Central London District Sick Asylum
status: pre 1948 Poor Law* (see note), Local Authority...type: General, Tuberculosis
status: post 1948 NHS .....type: Other: Tuberculosis; ear nose and throat
*The Poor Law came from a 17th century realisation that 'society' had a duty of care to it's sick and needy....here's a link explaining the Poor Laws and subsequent Amendments http://www.institutions.org.uk/poor_law_unions/the_poor_law1.htm
I've found differing dates and information that don't tally from several sources amongst which are the National Archives, London Metropolitan Archives and English Heritage amongst others.
Colindale as it is now called has had several names starting as the Central London District Sick Asylum in 1867 ...It was the Hendon Asylum from 1900-1913 and Hendon Infirmary from 1913-1919 ...In 1948 when the hospital became part of the new National Health Service it was renamed Colindale Hospital.
You've seen further information in other reports so on we go with the pictures.
Yup! the non climber climbed and I'm so glad I did for this view.
