Twenty years ago, there were six 'national' companies; BOCM Silcock, Dalgety Agriculture, RHM Agriculture, Pauls Agriculture, Bibby Agriculture and Nitrovit.
Today, just two companies, BOCM PAULS and ABNA, manufacture and distribute compound livestock feeds on a nation-wide basis. However, only BOCM Pauls operates across the product spectrum while ABNA produces only monogastric feeds.
BOCM PAULS came into being in 1992, being formed by the amalgamation of two businesses operating in the animal feed industry, but which had very different beginnings.
Pauls Agriculture was founded in Ipswich in the early nineteenth century initially to trade in malt and barley for brewers. This expanded into trading of maize and other ingredients for horses and subsequently from the early 1900s onwards, for other animals.
BOCM Silcock also has its roots in the nineteenth century being one of the earliest crushers of oilseeds to produce vegetable oils for the human food industries and for soap manufacture. The by-product of this process - the oilseed cake- rapidly became a rich source of protein for feeding to all types of animals.
Nationwide BCOM PAULS has over the last decade being cutting its mills and amalgamating in order to remain competitive in todays market. With further cost cutting the company closed its Renfrew mill and entered into a toll milling agreement with Davidson Brothers (Shott) Ltd in 2006.

Thanks for the comments. Was lucky to have a day the sun was actually visible - its a good explore but an incredibly smelly place, until your off the ground floor the stench makes you gag. :ohmy
