My exploring life is divided into 2 eras, BC (Before Cornwell) and AD (After Discovery). Before I stumbled upon Simon Cornwell's site I had no idea people spent time wandering round old buildings, photographing them and generally having a good old rummage. Most of my life BC, from as soon as I could walk, pretty much, was investigating the local area, ruined buildings, old mills etc - mostly with the blessing of my Mum and the encouragement of my Dad. Even in my pushchair I was obsessed with a local culvert which took the river down a waterfall into darkness and under the road at the bottom of our stream (conincidentally next to the ruined mill... Rossendale is excellent for exploring! :D

After idly googling 'urban exploration' (after a futile search for 'urban orienteering' left me scared and confused:eek:) I clicked in the top link (Urbex UK) and got reading...

When I stopped, 2 weeks later... I found this place:

The Waygood Gallery and Studios is set back off the road on High Bridge, Newcastle. It's currently undergoing redevelopment to make is a bit more useable, but I visited it just after it closed for the last time in 2005.

It's a very lovely warehouse-type building. I have very little idea of what it was built for, unfortunately my research skills were a bit crap on this one!:o

This was also about 2 days after I got my first digital camera. So sorry for the quality of the pictures. I was a bit excited. :p

This little explore gave me the impetus I needed to do more. I joined 28DL, met up with iNewton and others to start exploring our asylums, then the July 2007 meet happened and the rest is legend... :D:D:D

Seriously though, I don't think there is such a word, it's not in the dictionary or online. In what context was it used?

This...

It was up on a wall, like an extractor fan thingy (like the old vent axia's that everyone's granny's house used to have)...

EDIT: Ooo - it is one of those, but it's a foreign-type one! I've found someone who still sells them! http://articulo.mercadolibre.com.mx/MLM-22550432-ventilador-de-ventana-indolator-20-nuevo-hecho-en-holanda-_JM

Actually... I need an extractor fan for the bathroom, and this is quite cool and retro....
