Here's one for yer mom...
St Mary's Lead church, near Towton, north Yorkshire. The village of Lead has gone, and all that remains is this fourteenth century church.

The church is deconsecrated, and is only used for one service a year. It is very small.

I loved the worn stone altar.

The stone flagged floor has tombstones set into it.

The village of Lead has gone, and a few bumps remain in the grass. A heavy oak door keeps out the sheep and the cold wind.

Over ten thousand men were killed nearby during the battle of Towton in 1461, which ended the Civil War. The Cock Beck is said to have run red with blood. Today, it was just brown.
