In 2006/2007 Scarborough Council decided that the St Nicholas Cliff Lift needed some brass spending on and would therefore close. This is the one next to The Grand Hotel which took you down to the beach and new Rotunda museum, i.e. the one you'd use. Just like with the North Bay lift 10 years earlier they positioned the cars half way up, locked them, then locked both stations and left it. Weeds soon took over.
In 2008 they also removed the cars.
This funicular has(had) the broadest gauge of any railway in the UK.
