These are the quite well preserved remains of the Butlins Holiday Camp train station and platforms at Filey. The station was a branch line from the Hunmanby to Filey railway and was open in 1947. At its peak, the station could handle 6,000 passengers and when you stand on the massive platforms, you can see how. I would imagine the reason the platforms are still there long after the camp was demolished is the sheer size of them. The last trains ran on Saturday 17th July, 1977.
Hiding in the hedge and bushes, the subway which took the happy campers under the road and into the camp is still there but blocked at one end and filled with junk. Never seen 500+ identical toilet cisterns in a pile, I have LOL
I know people have done this place before but I love old railway stuff so here it is again. Visited with Squirrel68 as usual :thumb
Great article on the station HERE (http://www.subbrit.org.uk/sb-sites/stations/f/filey_holiday_camp/index.shtml) and a nice website about the now demolished holiday camp HERE (http://www.rememberfileybutlins.co.uk/index.html)
Old walkway leading down to the platforms. The rails have now grown inside the trees.
