This is an exploration we did about a year ago. It was a few months prior to the final demolition of most of what survived the 1991 Fire.
Words and Photos by the Stooges: Arntzville, Jackson and Captain Jack. .
Defying predawn temps in the lower single digits, within sight of a parked Police Cruiser, the Stooges entered admin under the cover of darkens.. Quickly we made our way up inside the clock tower and from the roof we watched the sunrise.

2. While in the tower we observed part of the great clocks works. Long stilled by disinterest
and decay

The interior of administration still shows scars from the fire that destroyed much of the hospital in the early 90’s. Although the actual flames only licked at it, the intense heat charred and scorched paint, wooden trim and plaster throughout the 5 story structure. An eerie mist hung in there as we worked in almost total darkness.
3. Although far from a well exposed art shot. This photo reflects how that burnt, scarred and filthy interior looked to the naked eye in the predawn hours.

We don’t really know why but every floor in the administration building had at least one bathroom with a very nice bathtub. Perhaps the admin people felt the need to cleanse after coming into contact with the asylum inmates.

After successfully exiting admin we decided to check out the cafeteria/service building which is often overlooked by explorers. Our entrance was made into the active steam plant where we quickly found the entrance to a confusing series of utility tunnels. Eventually we entered the cafeteria.

Although the cafeteria equipment was long gone and now it was mostly used for storage of old furniture, we did find a few objects of interest.

Must have been quite unpleasant to have that bar jacked up under your pelvis

We then returned to the utility tunnels in an effort to access the wards without going above ground. After crawling what seemed a ¼ mile in a mud and asbestos filled tunnel barely 3 feet high we found we had gone in a huge circle. On the verge of claustrophobia we returned to sunlight and fresh air.

We then made a b line for the Wards
Pictures of the Wards have become and everyday occurrence, here are a few more.
