Caldwells Paper Mill was built in 1914 in Inverkeithing, - initially it had four machines, but a fifth was added in 1928. From 1928 until 2002, Caldwells Mill was owned by the Inveresk Paper Company whom by the 1990s were struggling. Caldwells was taken over by Swedish company Klippan who had a rescue plan, but a slump in the price of paper put paid to that, and the mill closed in 2003.
I had travelled up to see an old mansion house and after trudging through forest and field, and getting a nasty suprise off of an electric fence I failed to see any warning sign about, mind you it was dark, I decided on nearing the house it was defo a daylight explore and torchlight would just cause too much attention. :( so I trudged back to the car and set off thinking well thats it, then I realised my route would take me past this place. Not knowing the exact location I drove in rather blind, it turned out to be real easy to find.
Access was comical, I walked the perimeter for what seemed like ages and just couldnt see a way in. In fact I was about to give up when I saw it, needless to say I ended up inside a bramble bush - a rather prickly situation.
The site is huge - I made my way to what looked like the main building

then I came to a dead end!! this was just a small side office probably to manifest loads coming to and fro by truck, so I headed out and got through another door into the main building where large expanses were everywhere, machinery obviously stripped

all in all I enjoyed this place, was great in the dark by torchlight - probably lots more to see in daylight, but the atmosphere in darkness adds so much to the explore :thumb
