This for me was the best iv done to date, i went here as a cadet many a time (see my other post)
So it brought a lot of memories back  ha ha!
Anyway on to the show :thumb

Bit of info

Situated on 90 acres of land at the entrance to Glen Artney, in the Perthshire countryside, Cultybraggan Camp has a broad history dating back to 1939 when it originally opened as No. 21 War Training Camp. Currently consisting of just under 100 Nissen Huts, Cultybraggan was known as a “black camp” and housed around 4,000 “Category A” Prisoners of War, who were thought to be the most extreme Nazi prisoners at the time, requiring a maximum security camp.
In 1945 the camp was disbanded, only to reopen as an Army Training Centre in 1949. Apart from an area of huts to the Western side of the camp, which were demolished in the 1970s to make way for a firing range, the rest of the Nissen huts remain, having had the original WW2 Pot-Bellied stoves swapped for LPG powered heaters at some point. Most traces of the camp’s former role have now disappeared, with the exception to the isolation block, which was converted into a storage facility.

Think we are getting close :gun

Even though its disused, its in a great condition still. Be a shame if they demolish it as its a piece of ww2 pow history.

Visited here in Aug 09. It's all fenced off now by a company - barbed wire and even some razor wire round the top of the fence too . Apparently they are planning on leasing the huts out as small business premises and for storage although some huts will not be touched as they are listed

It was bought by The Comrie Development Trust(CDT)which is the name given to the comunity buy out. They paid £350,000 for it and also own the bunker at the rear of the camp and also the roc post. The bunker is aparently showing lots of signs of mold and slime inside but we cannot confrirm as it was all locked up.We got told that if we had went down the week berore we would have got into it as it was open for Comrie gala week. They were talking about one of the huts being used to grow mushrooms but nothing has come of it so far.The guy we spoke too said that some of the huts were now listed,They are currently upgrading the electric before they can start renting out the huts but they also reckon that maintance will be approx £85,000 a year so rent wont be that cheap with council tax added on.

Very damp and leaky in April 08. Can only imagine it is much worse now as the air con systems etc. are rarely if even run I believe.

Apart from anything, the fact it's quite leaky can't have bode well should it have ever needed to be used during a war :ohmy:pray

Balls,

This was on my list as its pretty local. Guess I'll have to make do with seeing what's on offer on the doors open day in September.

Thanks for the heads up though.

It's owned by the Comrie Development Trust which is set to lease it to small businesses.

It's open as part of the "Doors Open" events in Scotland on 26th September 2009 (10-4)
