Here's another of the sites that Thompski, James, RJ and visited this summer in Germany's former industrial heartland.
This mine site was formerly an extension or consolidation of the larger Zeche Ewald a couple of miles away, which now houses a museum. The buildings on site have been mostly converted, some are used, some are not. This site played a large part in the RUHR.2010 industrial kultur celebrations with some of the buildings used as artspaces with lightshows etc.
Away from the rest of the buildings, the winding house that served the headstock that still remains and contains two delicious vintage Dampffördermaschine or winding engines which provided the hoist power to allow men and coal to be lifted from and lowered into the underground workings.

We were accompanied by John Salomon who promptly climbed atop the control booth barking instructions to clean up reams of ticker tape while constructing a 649 shot composite of the entire room :D
