An old coal mine i do believe - i was under the impression the whole area was derelict... wrong! not that it was a problem - only problem was that id had another day of fail and already drowning like a, well, drowned rat, decided to keep going and find a more ninja like way in. easy really. traveled light with just 50mm lens and camera cuz i couldnt be arsed with a tripod! enjoy pics - cuz then ive gotta go to ICU to be treated for pneumonia

i read online planning permission for this place fell through - yet heres a few diggers - most likley stolen from diggerland

on wards i find this, a battered shell.

a little look down the belts

http://i1212.photobucket.com/albums/cc448/dannyday58218195/gascoung%20works/2.jpg
nothing much going on apart from this and...

http://i1212.photobucket.com/albums/cc448/dannyday58218195/gascoung%20works/6.jpg
some old machinery as expected, covered in shit from the birds

http://i1212.photobucket.com/albums/cc448/dannyday58218195/gascoung%20works/5.jpg
the main attraction, as it were, was this.

http://i1212.photobucket.com/albums/cc448/dannyday58218195/gascoung%20works/LRE-5615.jpg
oh, and found some junk doing nothing

http://i1212.photobucket.com/albums/cc448/dannyday58218195/gascoung%20works/LRE-5793.jpg
anyways its full of... sand. literally. was probably used for coal storage at one time i guess. not no more.

http://i1212.photobucket.com/albums/cc448/dannyday58218195/gascoung%20works/9.jpg
moving up i see this.

http://i1212.photobucket.com/albums/cc448/dannyday58218195/gascoung%20works/10.jpg
with these in the yard.

http://i1212.photobucket.com/albums/cc448/dannyday58218195/gascoung%20works/14.jpg
and this... which was active, with a key and pretty flashing lights - opposite this building were some guys playing with cranes

http://i1212.photobucket.com/albums/cc448/dannyday58218195/gascoung%20works/16.jpg
inside a small garage thingy i found these. not much else. theres more to this building - is it used? honestly, i dont know. no broken windows and no graffiti. then again same for the "main attraction"

http://i1212.photobucket.com/albums/cc448/dannyday58218195/gascoung%20works/LRE-5950.jpg
on the way back decide to check this out - closer look told me not in use. dust covered windows and floors.

http://i1212.photobucket.com/albums/cc448/dannyday58218195/gascoung%20works/LRE-5917.jpg
but with the door locked, a few trains passing, and a passing van clocking me... decided to leave it be. Not much inside by the looks of it.

http://i1212.photobucket.com/albums/cc448/dannyday58218195/gascoung%20works/LRE-5910.jpg
pretty depressing day really - rain, abit of rain, and some more, water falling from the sky that people call... the name eludes me.

Thanks for looking :)

I really like the photos, I'm not keen on the soft fade to black border jobby but that's just me.

Looks alright this, part of it I find mainly attracting.

no - its impossible - the whole thing is full of 'sand' of all things - it looks like it should be a huge warehouse with two floors but nope, its full to the brim with sand! obviously been left for a long time as grass and weeds have started growing round the back making it look like some kinda sand dune.

Coal wasn't mined here, it was the main coal removal drift for all the linked pits around Selby that formed the "super pit". Coal from all the surrounding pits was brought by conveyor under ground and then up the drift to this washing, storage and distribution facility. Gascoigne Wood as this place was known was the only "walk in" access point or drift for the whole "Superpit", might be worth a look for the entrance, although from what you've said it's probably been filled with sand.

thanks for the heads up bout this place mate - was just given this location by a fellow urbexer who didnt give much info about its background - i bet your right though id expect the entrance to be blocked - concidering the recent endless rain think if i do go back it wont be for a long time!
