Southgate is an Office and Hotel Development opposite the Odeon, completed in 2010 by Design & Build Developer McAleer & Rushe (http://www.mcaleer-rushe.co.uk/portfolio_item/southgate-bradford/). (Click through for completed exterior and interior shots).

I visited in the early stages of fit-out in order to assess some specialist electrical requirements. Of course, once you have had the H&S orientation and are booted and suited in builder's chic, it is a backstage pass, Access all areas... :jester

Here are twelve snaps to give a flavour of the site.

The two buildings are L shaped forming an elongated U and the offices are separate from the Hotel. There is an on-site car park to the rear which nestles within the arms of the U and extends underground on several levels. There were two cranes on-site during construction and a wide platform external goods lift for raising materials. The brick building to the left is part of the Bradford Co-op 50's extension, most recently known as T J Hughes (& now derelict).

This double height space on the corner was destined to become the lobby. Check out the Developer site link at the top to see this area complete and fitted out.

An unexpected find in the lobby, some street furniture removed in the late stages of construction.

The bin can be seen on streetview here (http://g.co/maps/v4zwj), to the right of the blue hoardings. Curiously, that is the only streetview showing construction, if you move around the streetview, the old buildings reappear.

Within the central core there is a smoke evacuation chimney to protect the Fire Brigade Lift lobbies.

One of the lift lobbies. There are four passenger lifts, one of which is a Fire Lift (with double doors and protected power)

A view into the fire lift shaft- and out the other side! The lifts are months away from arriving yet.

Opposite the lifts are toilet areas. soil stacks and ventilation are being fitted, along with a pipe riser.

One of the floors on the Godwin Street side facing towards the NCP car park behind. They look a lot nicer when finished, see the link at the top!

Part of the Thornton Street wing. The roof of the Odeon can vaguely be seen through the scaffolding.
