Visited this mine/cavern earlier in the year,
The trip starts off a a mine in the Mole trap rake and eventually ends up in a old victorian show cave .
The mine section was originally worked as far back as the 1750's for Galena (Lead ore) and latterly for Fluospar on and off until around 1956.
The workings start off as Wapping and turn into Cumberland mine/cavern ...the borders are pretty blurred !!!!
As you venture into the Cumberland reaches it's obvious that the miners have broken into many natural chambers they were eventually turned into the show cave with Queen Victoria visiting in 1780.
There is also evidence of the show cave section having been occupied by a gang named "The Troggs" with areas of graffiti being evident .
Nice wander and all the more interesting by starting off in a mine then ending up in a cave with spiral staircases etc .
Just inside the entrance
