The wind is coming straight off the north sea today, causing the corrigated iron roof to creak and lift in one part. Hardy tufts of grass break through the concrete here and there, and 20 feet beneath, the brown water of the River Humber smashes on the rotting wooden posts that support this pier. Inching out across the weathered wood is me, tense and concerned that if anything goes wrong, I'm in the water, unless I'm kebabbed onto rusting metal on the way down.

This a derelict goods pier, out in the Humber Estuary. Two large warehouse are there, trashed and rusting, along with twisted rails.

The warehouses are empty, almost, save for the usual junk that is left in every derelict place i've been in.

I like graffiti in some places, and this summed it up better than I can.

On the platform. It's hard to imagine locomotives pulling up here to load and unload. I love the green.

It was nice to see that Simon Templar had been here before me.

I'm not really the bravest of explorer, not being a fan of heights or climbing. The way there looked like one day it might collapse and be washed away. I hoped that wasn't today. A couple of TenaLady moments, and a bit of hanging over the water did mean it was worth it, as it was great for taking pictures of. I love the tracks.

At times, from certain angles they look like a mad rollercoaster. On arrival, I was concerned that this was to be a bowel-loosening clamber up along these...

Well I heard last night that the way onto the pier as finally gone. So there is only two ways onto the Thelson Pier now, by boat and by deathwish (climbing the rotten posts that remain).
