Went to Hawkshead, but unfortunatly its locked on modern padlocks. A bit of detective work and i think i have found who has the key to the padlock, so will be making some contact and a return visit :thumb
Was a lovely day and a really steep climb through the church yard.

Yep, but padlocks are padlocks unfortunatly. I think someone from the church may have just stepped in temporarily and locked it. Same padlock as is on all the church gates and the shed nearby which presumbly is used to store equipment for maintaining the church grounds.

Yes, I was there earlier this year, see my report, same padlocks but when I revisited in july it seems to have been properly locked,I did manage on my earlier visit to get a shot down the entrance shaft this showed water at the bottom but might not be much, see my photo.although its a pain its locked at least keeps vandalls out if there is anything left,I hope you manage to find who has key,if you do please let me know because I am there a couple of times a year

It will be a surprise if you find anything down there, it caught fire a while ago when kids used it as a den. It was then cleared out and most of it was piled into a small rubbish mound, I got to it just as the rain started to fade away the evidence (in 2007)...
