Visited with bluebloodroyalbob other week and done my HDR again, starting to get in to it now! Anyway hope you like and abit of history

Sandal Castle is a ruined medieval castle in Sandal Magna, a suburb of the city of Wakefield in West Yorkshire, overlooking the River Calder. It was the site of royal intrigue, the opening of one of William Shakespeare's plays, and was the source for a common children's nursery rhyme.

The castles built by William the Conqueror's followers were self sufficient strongholds some of which were tax gathering points, some controlled the larger towns, river crossings or passes through hills. Two castles were built near Wakefield, one at Lowe Hill on the north bank of the Calder and Sandal on the south bank. The first castles were probably started and completed in the early 12th century by William de Warenne, 2nd Earl of Surrey after he had been granted the manor of Wakefield by Henry I.

Shakespeare's play Henry VI, Part 3 (Act 1, Scene 2) is set in Sandal Castle, it describes Richard's sons urging him to take the crown before news is brought of Margaret's approach. Act 1, scene 4 then depicts the death of Richard at the Queen's hands. This brief fictionalised account bears little resemblance to the history as we understand it today. The play is sometimes performed on the castle ruins.

The Battle of Wakefield is one of the candidates for the source of the nursery rhyme 'The Grand Old Duke of York', and the mnemonic for remembering the colours of the rainbow - Richard Of York Gave Battle In Vain.

Clough is right, epic photos! You make the rest of us look bad! My excuse is that my dad is rubbish at photography so I've not got it in my blood!

Sorry but the photos are too overcooked for my tastes, I preferred your last lot to these. Keep experimenting, as long as you like them, that is all that matters.

You're developing an eye for composition Kelsey - and that's the secret to a good picture. The tone-mapping is a little over done and rather flat for me, but HDR is one of those super-marmite processes - you can both love it and hate it at the same time. The fourth one has some quite large blown areas in the sky, suggests that the full dynamic range wasn't captured, or it could be that you've not quite got the settings right in the conversion.

A trick I found for putting some depth back into AEB HDRs is to take the dark exposure and layer it over the tone-mapped version. Quite a low transparency is all that's required to put some depth back into the shadows.

I understand people wont like my HDR but im not doing it on every report, im only doing it with big skys and this place has them all the time, thanks for the advice SG, will have a mess around with it, if you saw my first ever attempt at HDR youd think i had turned into the master compared to this report!

If you want to take it, there's a very rapid improvement progression with HDR.. in no time you'll be thinking nothing of settling down to take a dozen exposures of the same scene!

HDR has me boggled! LOL! Well done Kelsey, you're happily using processes that make my head hurt!

Kelsey, take pictures you want to take and take photos for yourself, and if others like them then cool, thats a bonus.
