In 1904 Leicester Corporation Tramways began a conversion programme, switching from horse drawn trams to electric ones. During the same year the Abbey Park Road Depot was built to house the new trams. The first motor bus came into service in 1924, and the new bus garages were opened on 16th September 1926 and 12th March 1934. The head office was opened on 21st July 1937. There was a large fire there in 1999 and some of the older end of the site had to be demolished. It closed towards the beginning of 2007.
