This popped up on the satnav when we were in the area and i suggested we should check it out.

I thought it was gonna be like an old mill museum but its just shops and stuff. Interesting history though. It was built by Titus Salt in the 1800's and emplyed thousands of people. It had its own church as well.

Aye, Saltaire's a great place. Love the architecture. I've not had a chance to get into the church both times I've been, but I was very disappointed the Mill's not been turned into a museum or anything..and I had some saltaire ale at an ale festival before. Good stuff!

Brewery isn't actually in Saltaire, it's in Dockfield. They just chose the name 'Saltaire' to help with marketing me thinks.

Tram starts here

Theres loads to see around there . I'll be back.... When i can drive, which should be around christmas time providing i have my insurance sorted by then. If i got the train its three hours, three changes and a lot of money so its not really worth it.

Myself and joybee were in Saltaire Saturday just gone :thumb We went with the intention of shooting the Mill from the River Aire side, and It didn't disappoint :D

Saltair is a Victorian model village, and was founded by Sir Titus Salt in 1853. The Mill stands between the Leeds and Liverpool Canal and the River Aire.

Full history etc here.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saltaire

I really enjoyed my time here. It certainly is a unique place to visit, and deffo on the cards to do so again :thumb

Here's a few shots from the day. Hope you enjoy.

Starting with a stroll on the Canal, and the chav section.

I used to go here with family on the way to Lincoln from Cumbria, we would have a great burger and chips in the top floor cafe and wander the David Hockney paintings before setting off again. A lovely building, if your in the area it is a great place to visit.
