After walking for an hour towards Cleckheaton I remembered a place that was just a slight detour from my route that I use to walk past regularly, so off I detoured.

In 1894 the site was occupied by a dry saltery, open land a bit of woods and a reservoir. Victoria Dyeworks was established in 1907 along with a cricket pitch and reservoirs to the west. In 1932 it was extended building over the cricket pitch over the years it was extended even further with the introduction of the Chimneys and an electricity substation covering about 0.15 hectares. I couldn't dig up any other owner to the dyeworks than Harrison Gardner & co. Ltd.

On the 18th April a fire broke out due to arsonists covering 60% of the building and it took 4 pumps and one ariel to distinguish the flames.

There is a planning application to demolish the Dyeworks and build an housing estate in its place and a contamination report has been done to see if this would be possible.

Ignoring the local ghost stories and the rather odd stories of children being taken here to be stripped and beaten I found my way in and started my exploration.

The footpath running through the middle of the site

I have a soft spot for wrecks and I kind of went a bit crazy on the photos if you would like to see more pics of this site just click here (http://s1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd381/Mutilated_Pixie/Victoria%20Dyeworks/) and type victoria as the password

*Update* I have just recieved an email from Harrison Gardner & Co. Ltd, informing me that they have been at Victoria Dyeworks from 1901 - 2006 when they moved to Bradford.

Seriously, that's one big tank, it's bigger than my house. Thanks for the compliment on the history, I like to do my best at finding what I can, most of this came from an online contamination report, it's crazy what you can find online lol.

No I don't have a tri-pod, I did rest camera on a few things, the main prob I had here was the camera struggled to focus, that and I do have shakey hands now and then. I got a tri-pod bought for my birthday, I think it got shrunk in the wash as its about the height of my shin lol.

the main prob I had here was the camera struggled to focus.

I find that if you can get the camera to focus first then turn it to manual focus and tweek it for the steadier tripod shot it works better (obviously depends on what camera you are using but most SLR's/Lens' should let you do this)

Bloody hell I thought this place had been flattened. It's a death trap for kids, and I too had heard about the child beatings from a local. To be honest
I was on edge all the time I was in here.

The main probs I had was that with the place being so cavanous peoples voices were thrown all other the place from the nearby footpath. I heard some local phone the police on me but I was in there over an hour and nobody came.

I would imagine the cops are fed up of being called out here.
