I'd seen the tunnels under Norman Park in Huddersfield years ago, and thought I'd go back, take a gander. I checked out the maps before going back and intended to have a look at Clayton Dike which I thought led into Grimescar Beck, aka the "Grimescar Chiropractor".

i couldn't get under the park as it had a locked mesh gate, so set off and found the start of Clayton Dike at Birkby Lodge Road. Made my way in and followed it through to grimescar which turned out to be lower than a snakes belly.

Going well till I saw the concrete pipes, not a big fan of these.

the floor drops down fairly steeply in places, so I knew i was heading down towards the Grimescar beck.

getting lower at every turn, no concrete pipes though.

Into the blastcrete rabbit warren, could hear running water getting louder.

I'm having to drag myself through on all fours now at this point, pushing the torch and tripod first.

weird little arched white room about two foot six inches high, starting to wonder how low the roof would go.

drops off steeply after this point, and the sound of running water getting louder.

grimescar beck junction at last, where it gets even lower and the place is filled with a thousand little muddy ratty footprints.

I'd joined grimescar Beck almost at the downstream end, so have started the photo trail from there heading upstream past Clayton Dike junction to Norman Park.

I'd seen the same shot in MJS's Grimescar pics couldn't believe the cone was still there, plus I had to rest as I was cream crackered.

The roof here is a mill floor and the sound of machinery and people talking was like they were in the river with me, with a small window into the mill yard at roof level. But room to stand up, needed that.

Nice work, it shows a truly dedicated urban mole to push on through, even if it takes dragging yourself through the lowest of tunnels.

Clayton Dike was low but fairly easy with interesting parts that were all different, hardly any water and a steady drop down. I thought it hooked up with and was part of the Chiropractor, i'd seen your pics but didn't recognise it till the last section with the road cone, then I was sure. I aim to do the rest later, after seeing your blurb on it, but I wont be doing this part again, I still ache now, "Grimescar Chiropractor" well named
