For those in the Highlands the story is well known, but for those outwith a brief history, more info at- www.clan-mackenzie.org.uk/clan/seer.html.
The man known as the Brahan Seer worked as a labourer on the Brahan Estate, seat of the Seaforth Chieftans,(still a working ,hunting, shooting ,fishing, estate) he made many prophesies, many of which came true, amongst them he fortold of the extinction of the Seaforth line-Lord Seaforth died after his 4 sons, his daughter inherited, but was killed when her carriage went out of control in 1823, this was the end of the family line.
He also predicted they would lose all their possessions, Brahan Castle burnt down in 1951 ,and that the Fairburn Tower would become uninhabited and a cow would give birth in the uppermost chamber-which happened when a cow followed a trail of hay to the top and became stuck and gave birth to a calf before being rescued.
The Brahan Seer was eventually put in a barrel of boiling tar and died, but many prophesies had come true, and some that may still.
