Went here today with mickeylove, mexico75 and their families. And what a fantastic place it really is! Also met theoss and trousercowboy along the way.

Date protected accommodation opened: 16.12.1961
Date closed: 1992

The bunker has been fully restored by English Heritage to its condition at closure in 1991. It looks a little strange now that housing has sprung up around it!

The main ops room contains 1960's colour psychology to calm and help the occupants concentrate during the dark days of a nuclear war.

The building also contains an awdrey unit, one of only 12 in the uk, designed to pinpoint the bombflash and remotely forward the details onward.

LOL, was trying to guess if there was anyone i hadnt seen before.

Aparently shipton is being restored by the bunker trust, good news for those of us who thought it was going to be lost forever as a computer storage facility.
