Onto our 2nd explore of the day after Barnes (and only my 3rd ever explore), to St Thomas' Hospital in Stockport. It's a forum regular so I'll miss out the history. Beware, this story is pretty epic...

Visited with Silverstealth and Nicola. We got in fine, but I was disappointed to see that the place looks very much further deteriorated than it looks in reports from even a month earlier. Lots of items still knocking around inside though. The building with clocktower has been apparently renovated and is completely sealed.

The three of us went in separate directions inside one building close to the main road, and as I walked into one room to look for the others, I was faced with an enormous barking dog, running at me ready to tear my face off. Luckily (or so I thought at the time) the dog was being restrained by a security guard. I went to head to the window, but the dog went crazy and so I had to stand or the guy said he'd let the dog off to catch me.

I saw Silverstealth emerging from a window and legging it across the courtyard, then a few seconds later Nicola running another. So I told the guard that my friends were still upstairs, hoping he'd go upstairs to find them and give me the chance to run. But he didn't. He made me walk outside with him and the dog and tried to get me to wait in his cabin while he called the police. He was spouting on about the police were gonna come and deal with me for trespassing. When I told him that was a civil matter, and the police would probably be more interest in his assault case for threatening to let his dog do me harm, he started smugly on with how I was breaking and entering. I told him I didn't break anything, and that the crime of "entering" only applies to entering by force, which I didn't do. Oh that made him angry - he got on his radio and called for backup, then marched me round to the back gate "to wait for the police to deal with this".

His "back-up" turned up in the form of two bemused security guards. He told them that the police were on their way for me, and to keep me there while he went to find "the others" who he thought were still hiding inside.

As soon as he was out of ear-shot I played the innocent & scared little blonde girl on the verge of tears - "I didn't do any damage, I just wanted to get some interesting pictures with my new camera. I'm really sorry. I didn't mean to cause any trouble". One security guard asked how many were still inside and I told him I was alone, and that I'd told the other guy that I had loads of friends still upstairs because he had terrified me and I felt threatened. They said that it was OK and they believed me, so I asked if I could just go and leave it at that. One said "of course you can love" while the other gave me the quickest escape route back to the main road. As I was hastily walking away, one called after me and said "you're ok love, don't worry".

Got round the corner, met up with SS & Nicola, and had a laugh at the thought of the jobsworth getting back to find me gone.

So a lot of drama for only my 2nd ever day of exploring, but it all worked out fine in the end. (Headed straight off to Bailey Mill in Oldham, to "get back on the horse")

Onto the pics (again before I discovered shooting in RAW or editing)...

And then the dog appeared...
