Now we move on to the bunkers.
There are 2 here, 1 of them well known to workers, another virtually unheard of.
There is a few other bunkers around the site, The Thatcham bunker which has 2 spiral staircases running down to the bottom. The bunker is on 3 levels but is completely flooded, it is still complete but St Mowdem won't allow you anywhere near it to pump it out (trust me, we have asked!). And you need to get permission as it is so close to security.
The Bodywork Bunker
This is located on West Works. It was purposely built into a hill to the side of the site

East Works Control Bunker
Now this is the one that holds a bit of mystery, it was located under one of the East Works buildings but wasn't known by many who worked above.
It took us nearly 2 hours to find this the first time, we then took 30mins to find it the second time!
It was later used by the local fire service in the 1970's who laid sandbag walls to divide the areas and also re-create collapsed walls.
The bunker had about 5 entrances, only one of which can be accessed now as the rest have been backfilled and bricked up.
The only evidence of what it may have once been used for was a chart found on the floor with 'AERO 1' written on, which suggests it was used for the plane manufacturing in the factories above during WWII.
The bunker also had a comms room with various wires coming in from above. It also had it's own ventilation system that snaked around the area.

Its a shame that the other section is flooded. I was under the impression this was demolished? Still some war time toilets left to see. Nice set!
