Visited with KooK.
After checking out Meanwood Hospital, then trekking round some of Leeds' lower canal route in search of dereliction and with plans to enter the famous "Masticator" drainage system, the weather drove us over to Keighley to investigate Dalton Mill. Of course, the recent reports had brought this to our attention and there was also the issue of parts being missed by previous explores, which were our targets.
On approach to Keighley over the hills by Micklethwaite and East Morton, the square sectioned, grand Victorian chimney of Dalton Mill is immediately apparent as the most prominent structure of Keighley's skyline.
History is easy to find and I won't regurgitate other reports' info.
I thought it fitting to William Blake's poem, And did those feet in ancient time as this really was one of the dark, satanic mills to which he refers.
And did those feet in ancient time.
Walk upon Englands mountains green:
And was the holy Lamb of God,
On Englands pleasant pastures seen!
And did the Countenance Divine,
Shine forth upon our clouded hills?
And was Jerusalem builded here,
Among these dark Satanic Mills?
Bring me my Bow of burning gold;
Bring me my Arrows of desire:
Bring me my Spear: O clouds unfold!
Bring me my Chariot of fire!
I will not cease from Mental Fight,
Nor shall my Sword sleep in my hand:
Till we have built Jerusalem,
In Englands green & pleasant Land

On a second visit we stopped into the little workshop missed the first time due to time constraints... Unfortunately I'd purchased a countefeit memory card from eBay which meant all my RAW files were corrupt and unusable...
Stopped by here to get a couple of photos of the fire damaged part of the Mills located here (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=53.868503,-1.895981&num=1&t=h&sll=53.865704,-1.909755&sspn=0.052654,0.128059&hl=en&ie=UTF8&ll=53.868483,-1.895984&spn=0.000969,0.002411&z=19), unfortunately the main gate was closed so we couldn't walk around to the courtyard to see what the damage looked like from there. However, we could see straight through the central part of the building due to its collapse so I would imagine it looks pretty similar on the other side.
This part housed a staircase and the rooms that had the looms and spinning tables etc - as seen here (http://i984.photobucket.com/albums/ae321/jjstenson/Dalton%20Mill/IMG_3225.jpg). It could have even spread as far as the workshop, but if I remember correctly, they were separated from the part that was on fire by thick masonry walls.

It looks as if the fire damage was isolated to that central part, I reckon the smoke damage will be more prolific though.
A damn shame for those who didn't get to see it in full. Also, is anyone aware of the current state inside post fire?
