FIRSTLY, I realise that this place has been done to Oblivion in the past but here goes.
In 1918 Lever Brothers built a power station on the banks of the Mersey.
The station was called Central Power Station and had three coal fired boilers and a 5 Megawatt generating set manufactured by Siemen’s Brothers.
By the 1950s Central Power Station was producing power for the various Lever’s factories around Port Sunlight and Bromborough, both of the Villages and for other companies operating in the Bromborough Pool area including stalk margerine and McTay marine.
In January 1997, Unilever announced that thier Central Power Station would close, with power distribution being handed over to MANWEB (now Scottish Power), at the end of 1998.

I Visited this place with Member Sephirof after seeing all of the lovely dials and control panels in another report, the powerstation has been left to go to rack and ruin but the main control room is still a fantastic sight to see, this first shot is one of the main building with the control room being on the first floor, as usual the cable strippers had been busy some even excavating to get to the steel wired armoured cable.
Not one single dial or instrument went unsmashed.

This shot shows the extent of decay with the roof falling in and the place green with mildew...notice the old bloke at the end of the control panels pretending to take a picture but really having a breather after climbing the steps, I did blur out his face a bit but he already wears a false moustache and grey eyebrows :)

Just a bit of dereliction that greets you at the entrance into the control room, the veiw is outside is actually quite nice over the river Mersey with passing boats and ships.

Some more lovely Dials that meant something back in the 1950s but kinda reminded me of the dashboard of my old 240z Datsun(for anyone old enough).

Nice 10mm shot of the control panel, I just love wide angles, forgot to move my camera bag out of shot.

this shot is taken from the ground floor and these panels are directly under the main control panels in the control room above and look like being Massive variacs or something similar to vary the voltage in and out.

The same panels from the other side of the room, notice the large red weighing scales which I can only imagine were used during a salvage operation.

Another control room shot, I just couldnt help myself as I loved this place being a spark an all!

This was an auxhilliary panel that housed what looked like ordinary electric meters similar to the ones that we have at home, this was no doubt used to meter the supply to each recipient.

That's great but it's been a bit smashed up since I was there a few years ago.

Some great shots though.
