i though i might aswell put up a new post seen as i found something else interesting at the old -ordinary- coal mine...
yeah, i have just copied the history from my first post, but added a bit more...
Wistow is just one of 5 collierys in the Selby complex set up to mine the vast amounts of coal beneth it. Unfortunatly when UK coal took over, they decided to walk away from the harder to reach coal and left millions of tons of it. The complex involved 10 mine shafts and 124 miles of tunneling,until its closure in 2004.
wistow mine began producing coal in 1983. this was the first new British coalfield for half a century, the biggest pit in Europe. Tucked away on a quiet country road in Yorkshire, screened by hundreds of young trees, its winding gear hidden away in a brick duilding, it didn't look like other pits. But by the end of that decade and well into the 90s, Wistow was smashing production records and churing out just under 200,000 tonnes of coal a week.
when it closed late 2004 they knocked down the headstock and the red brick housing and sealed the mine shafts :cry they welded most of the workshop doors closed to stop people getting into them and stealing all the cables, but that hasnt stopped some of them... :fail

the remington .223 blanks where found near the bike storage sheds and around the entrance to the main mine enclosure, and the 9mm airsoft ones were found lying around in the carpark
i was really lucky in the sense that i found ONE .223 bullet that hadnt been fired... as below next to two fired ones...
