NORTH WEALED REDOUBT / MOBILISATION CENTER -ESSEX
I visited this location a while ago and found it rather flooded and being waderless descided to come back.
Its been covered before so i wont be going in to any depth.
In brief it was constructed in the end of the 19 century to house ammunition as a shell and cartridge store.
Sunken in to a raised copse are gorge magazines of exstreamly thick concrete with ramps leading to them
Its purpose was to assist in the defence of London and It could also when vacated of shells etc
be used as a stageing area for Troops.
It could also provide direct support for the nearby radio station on the edge of the copse.
North Weald - Ongar Radio Transmitter.
It was originally built in 1920 and operated by Marconi's Wireless Telegraph Company then
Post Office and Cable and Wireless Ltd.
On the site still remains one of the rare Allen William Turrets
and also a huge section of one of the old transmitter masts.
Any way heres a few pics
