Yes, more Hartwood for ya. We pretty much arrived just as Skin was leaving to write up his last report...
Opened on 14th May 1895 under the original name Lanark District Asylum and had 6 wards, 3 male, 3 female which gave a capacity of 500 beds. It also had it's own private railway for the transport of patients. At the time, the cost of building the hospital, railway, superintendents house, providing electric lighting and the provision of nurses accomdation came to a total of £152,340. The patients were also later given a bowling green and a farm in order to facillitate occupational therapy. Before the practice of occupational therapy, ECT and lobotomy procedures were commonplace at the hospital. At its peak, the hospital had nearly 2000 beds. It remained in use until 1998 when it was decided by the Lanarkshire Health Board that the hospital should be closed and it's patients moved to a newer site further up the road.
Visited with Cuban and Dazza
At this point there was a loud siren, birds flew out of trees, the sky grew dark...
