Most of the history on this place is well known so here are the basics.

Originally a 'Workhouse', in 1912 the site was renamed as Stockport Poor Law Institution. In the 50's it became known as Shaw Heath Hospital, later going on to become St Thomas' Hospital. The hospital eventually closed in 2004.
