Visited with Nick - a great day spent walking around the local area, thank you for the knowledge.

Black Dick's Tower - known as "The Temple" on maps - was the Summer House of Whitley Hall, bought by a Mr Charles Sutcliffe in 1924. The house and many of the buildings fell into disrepair but the Summer House still remains to this day.

Whitley Hall had its ghost, that of Black Dick (Sir Richard Beaumont), who was reputed to walk in the grounds with his head under his arm every year on 5 July. "Black Dick of the North" was the nickname given to him by James I. Born in 1574 and knighted in 1609, Black Dick was made a baronet in 1628. He was a highwayman and died in 1631.

Nice one mate. I used to play here in my youth. Rumor had it that an underground tunnel led to the church in Kirkheaton were Black Dick was laid to rest.

Some people call this "dirty Dicks" temple also. You've saved me a trip, walking up that hill

Its a very well known local monument. Despite living closeby for all of my advancing years, ive never been up to it!. The basement area makes it look a bit like a mausoleum.

I made a return visit with Dantheman and Ern to get some night shots (both Ern and myself decided that we wanted some practise with night shots)
