Beaufoy & Lagoons caves & Tower Hamlets ARP tunnel - 10/11/10

I was kindly shown this amazing set of tunnels by Herbivore, Oldie68 (Not on this forum), Scott Isles and Fat Wreck (Not of this forum). I was so pleased to be able to see them before the chance went.

Entrance was surprisingly as blatant as the ground you walk upon. :jester

History and the exact placement of the tunnels was the genius work and research of Oldie68 and Herbivore so well done to these two for originally putting the work in.

The main tunnel is about 550ft long with toilet spurs every hundred or so yards. Half way through the Tower Hamlets tunnel is the spur tunnel down to Lagoon's caves, where the toilet blocks are still in place and a few tiles are left on the wall from where the kitchen area once was.

Two thirds down the Tower hamlets tunnel it has been blocked - behind the wall is a pile of builders rubbish built up about 4ft, therefore careful treading on the beams of wood and glass shower doors took us down to Beaufoy's Caves end of the system. Toilet blocks are also in place here and the tunnel ends in the storeroom of the local plumbers.

These are a very tidy set of tunnels that I am very grateful for being pointed towards. Luckily got the keys & plans just in time.

Took my new torch down to give it a try so had to lower the shutter speed now and again to compensate. :thumb

Bay 76. Each family was given a bay and they had to use only that bay. There would be a bunk bed
and opposite, a bench. If you went in during a raid, you'd know exactly where you family could be found.
