Three dry docks were built for the Clyde Navigation Trust between 1869 and 1898, the first dock opening in 1875, the second larger dock in 1886 and the third and largest in 1898. They were extensively used for winter overhauls and refits of Clyde steamers.
The Graving Docks were closed in 1988.

As I wandered around the gravings theres a feeling of being within the last remaining dereliction of Glasgow Docklands history and at the same time surrounded by many familiar Glasgow sites.

One of the gravings with Glasgow Science tower in the background – the tower has had little use and remains sitting unused due to technical problems which seem may never be resolved.

across the water a boat which will remember the hey days of the docks and you can see Glasgow University tower in the background on the right.

quite a nice relaxed mooch around and a good perspective on the city from a different angle to be had here.
