I absolutely love the old p5 and p6 rover v8's. They're from when the British motor industry was at its absolute best.
http://www.channel4.com/4car/media/features/2004/rover-100/03-large/1961-rover-t4-gas-turbine.jpg
This is the 1961 rover T4 gas turbine car on which the rover p6 shell is based.
The T4 was derived from the forthcoming 2000 body style and heavily influenced the design of that model. It was actually shown two years before the debut of the 2000. At the time Rover claimed that if the market could accept the price of £3-4000 then it could have been in production within three years. However, at the time the most expensive Rover was £1948. With Kerosene consuption of the 140hp turbine engine being 16-20mpg, it was never going to compete with petrol engines on an economic basis.
This car along with other turbine vehicles can be seen in the Heritage Motor Museum, Gaydon, Warwickshire

It is a trophy and there where quite a few around. Aparently whoever lived there was very active at a local drag racing track. Another partially collapsed building nearby had dozens in it.

One of the many abandoned or as good as abandoned boats dotted around various parts of Hull and its neighbouring locales. There used to be two in this spot (the one in the picture and a smaller white one with a name (which I forget) but it as disappeared :-(. I doubt this one will be here that much longer if the redevelopment plans that surround it want it gone.
http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p50/ForestTellar/AbandondedBoat.jpg
I'm going to go to the best one either early this morning or Friday morning (its only worth going in Dawn's low light when the tide is as high as it can be (or you wont see the other boats due to silt, sediments and a rickety old pier. Fortunately the "best" one is some distance away from any building work so until they become buried under several more tons of silt then they're safe.

Found this section of fenced off land basking in amber light, within an Industrial estate while doing some Recon. The cars are all very similar and stripped of various components. Across the road there is a auto garage that seems to specialise in this make of car I guess the few cars that are in that part are the ones that got the parts stripped from the others.

Looks like an MGB GT Roadster.
I'd have it!
...one of my dream cars, or at least the V8 version is.
Most of the cars in and around that section look like that white one, I think the building on the opposite side of the road is a specialist centre but a private business rather than a proper dealership.
This is one of the other photos I took of the same bit showing some of the others.

This transporter was abandoned on the motorway by its driver after it caught fire. A mattress blew off a skip wagon in front and it got trapped under the transporter. Presumably the friction caused it to catch fire and it took the truck with it. The driver managed to escape unscathed!

A Land Rover with only 3 wheels !!!
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3405/3672673483_03ac44b4f8.jpg
Edited with Photoscape (http://www.photoscape.org/ps/main/index.php) it's Free software I used it for a Camera Club assignment of creating a speech bubble,
found it really simple to use so I use it for quick edits the Land Rover was sharpened, frame created and signature
added in under 3 mins, not bad if your in a hurry. OK for quick edit it does loads of other stuff Filter effects
Tilt shift effect and much more, and saves EXIF data as well
Just thought I'd share with you all............

Smart Car made of Sand!
Saw this whilst on Hols last year in Jersey.
It took 3 days to make and the guy who made it, camped on the beach next to it so that no smarmy kids would kick it down:laugh
The sand sticks together because they mix PVA glue with it.:ohmy
And it is to scale!

Hi, This is my first thread, so i thought i'd share some of the pics i've taken of abandoned vehicles around England and Cyprus. It's always a buzz when you find something 'new' that looks like it hasn't been found or explored yet.
First up a Bedford *Ambulance I found in Yorkshire last Dec/Jan
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3532/3969838558_5f69ace050.jpg
This Singer Gazelle had spent too many years under a hay store, also in Yorks
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2628/3969838414_8a8929f6f4.jpg
I wouldn't fancy going over a speedbump in this
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2531/3969838554_0575f4bde0.jpg
This Vanden Plas 1300 was sharing it's quarters with the Singer
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3419/3970015226_4348364d31.jpg
I spotted this bus outside an old garage (locked up) back home in Leicestershire..
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3449/3969786086_88e08e24e9.jpg
..and spotted this Cortina on the way back home.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3530/3969817196_0d06885350.jpg
Now a bit further from home, this old bus shell was rotting in the Cypriot hills
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2456/3969838566_406a481489.jpg
Whereas this *Leyland van had a great view of the sea :thumb
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2647/3969838570_d74026f2bb.jpg
in pathos itself was this decaying merc; nice.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3424/3969838634_8d7f39f52d.jpg
Finally, this happy-looking bus was gathering dust in a carpark by our hotel.

I am a Mustang fan myself! Its owned by the Farmer's son who originally was going to do a full resto on it, but like all these projects time & money ran out. He reckons one day he will get around to doing it up:flog
Its been laying in the barn for at least 10 years! The engine is seized solid apparently, I reckon its only good for spares now though.

Top one is a snow blower which hasn't moved in 30 years!
Second one is a 1925 Fowler steam roller located in Aberfeldy play park. A lot of people have tried to purchase this over the years for restoration but have been unsuccessful, the town adamant that it was gifted to them & couldn't possibly be sold... this roller replaced a different Fowler steam roller that was located in this park which was in better condition so isn't the one gifted to them!
The one sat there now has a bent crankshaft which in the 60s was thought to be a hard repair to undertake, these days with technology it's easy to make up a new crankshaft.

We had a Mazda 626 2.0GLX once, by far the worst car I've ever driven. Any relationship between the controls and what the car did on the road was purely coincidental. It pleases me to see it stuffed into a bush, but it would look a lot better on fire.

Got to borrow my mate Astrid's camera when exploring around an old house at Munlochy...
Then we found an old Landrover and old Buses in the garden, quite a big graveyard but only had time to jump into one.

i found a mk2 escort in a garage that was nearly falling down. so went to see the owner of the garage and bought the escort off her for £50 (her husband parked it in there in 94 and then died) when we pulled it out it was mint!! never been welded and only needs a little attention to the rear arch.
this is where she'd been hiding for 16 years

The vehicle is in a private motor museum called Egeskov veteran car museum, Egeskov castle, Egeskovgade 18 5772, kvaerndrup
It has its own website which is as follows: www.egeskov.dk the page can be accessed in english aswell.
they dont appear to have been touched for many years and they just stand outside.
unfortunatly there are no pictures of the roller. dad cant remember what it was but he says it was open with no canopy and deffinatly wasnt steam.
The museum is now closed for the winter and is only open in the summer months.
This was one of his own finds I was safely in England at this point in time.

Some fantastic old vehicles in this thread. Takes me back to when me and my friends used to mooch around the old abonded scrap yard. I always remember there was an abonded 6-wheeled amphibious vehicle we used to 'play' in. Ahh to be 12 again.
Reminds me of a place I found between Dumfries and Dalbeattie in SW-Scotland near the old munitions plant. I found an old abandoned crane in a shed.
Who owns some of these things? Would be great to somehow take ownership and restore some of them. I love finding old abandoned plant items.

Not so much a abandoned vehicle, but a abandoned Blackstone engine. This is the stanby diesel incase of power loss at RAF Sculthorpe.
It is massive and still stands with its control panels and huge dynamos. It was started with compressed air, all of which remains intact.
The photo does its size no justice at all, its unbeleivable and must be seen, must of sounded pretty awsome.

The car in the front of the photo is a Volvo P1800E
Most of the cars in and around that section look like that white one, I think the building on the opposite side of the road is a specialist centre but a private business rather than a proper dealership.
This is one of the other photos I took of the same bit showing some of the others.

why have you crashed so many Xantias? lovely motors to drive, if not a little low!
lizardpics
05-10-2011, 11:59 AM
I've only actualy crashed 1 xantia, but broken a few for bits to keep the black one going. The red one I bought for 100 dabs, had 4 brand new michelins on it, leather interior and a blown engine, nicked tyres, interior, lights, turbo, spoiler etc, scrapped it and got 120 back for it. Good bit of business me thinks. The BMW didn't win on the wet roundabout, and the zx didn't like being slammed into the central reservation. The others have been to Buxton banger racing.
Some people call me stupid, but I do love an old citroen, on the look out for an xm diesel if anyone knows of one?

I dont know of any going... as a youngster (24) my previous car was a 1.9TD SX xantia - p reg in dark green. lovely to drive but after 2 years was going to cost me £700 to get through an MOT when i only bought it for £995. so that went to the great scrapyard in the sky... now i fly around in a 2.0 berlingo.
lizardpics
05-10-2011, 07:27 PM
i was 18 when i got mine, when my mates was in saxo's and corsa's and wondered why i drove it, then at a set of lights a 1.9 td takes off a little better than a 1.1. they soon realised, and i like been able to tow anything, such as the big rover, stopping it was a different matter. had mesen a berlingo from work, cracking little van. you've got to love a citroen.
Shadow_Ops

I passed my test at 19 and started on a 1.1 polo... then 3 months later a 1.9TD xantia and insurance went up £50
lizardpics
05-10-2011, 08:15 PM
similar to me, sept 06, a 1.1 fiesta cost me £1450, xantia in march 07 cost me £1520. every 17/18 year old should have one. and it would give all mechanics (myself) a good boost aswell. luckily i was able to repair mine most of the time. usually with anything to hand, bailing twine is so handy.

very nearly baught that when it was in a lot better nick than that if it is still there it must be near 8-10 yrs at least it has stood in that spot near sellers horse food supplies it was pretty saveable at one point but alfa suds deteriorate quickly if left ....hell their not that slow if you looked after them pitty realy as they are an exceptionaly nice looking and driving car if you can find a good one if !!
the alfa romeo sud was developed to create employment in the south of italy ... unfortunately they didn't forsee the problem of most of the factory being devoid of workers during the tomato harvest season therefore they were very shoddily built there were rumours that even when they were new you could hear them disolving on the ferry comming accross here and a regular fault on newish vehicles was the rear hatch and windows falling out through corrosion
